Panha 2091 Toufan – Iranian attack helicopter, designed in 1979 by aircraft manufacturers Bell Helicopter Textron and Panha.
The design of the Panha 2091 Toufan helicopter began to be carried out by the Iranian aircraft manufacturer Panha and the American company Bell Helicopter Textron in the mid-70s of the last century. The model of the American Bell AH-1J International helicopter, which underwent several various changes, including those affecting both the appearance of the aircraft and the technical component of this military aircraft, served as the primary base.
Thanks to the technical optimization of the aircraft, the Iranian Panha 2091 Toufan attack helicopter proved to be very popular in the armed forces of this state, and although the helicopter has more than 35 years of history, the model is still very relevant and effective in terms of their operational capabilities.
Compared to the original helicopter model manufactured by the aircraft manufacturer Bell Helicopter Textron, the Panha 2091 Toufan model received new avionics, an improved cockpit, a camera installed in the nose of the helicopter, etc.
The Panha 2091 Toufan helicopter is an effective combat unit used in the fight against lightly armored and armored enemy vehicles, and with large concentrations of enemy forces. In turn, it should be noted that the use of a helicopter against single targets is ineffective since the helicopter does not have machine guns. In service with the helicopter model Panha 2091 Toufan are:
- 20 mm automatic aircraft gun .;
- A set of 14 unguided missiles;
- A set of 8 guided anti-tank missiles;
- A set of two guided air-to-air missiles.
The crew of the Panha 2091 Toufan combat aircraft consists of two people – a pilot and a gunner, and due to the helicopter belonging to the class of strike air means, the transport of military personnel, and any cargo on board is not possible.
The Panha 2091 Toufan military attack helicopter is equipped with a power plant consisting of two Pratt & Whitney Canada gas turbine aircraft engines, each of which has its thrust of 1,530 hp, which is somewhat lower than the original version, however, despite this fact, the flying speed the apparatus is 240 km \ h., with a maximum flight range of 600 kilometers.
The number of Panha 2091 Toufan helicopters used in the Iranian Armed Forces remains unknown, however, experts point to at least 12 aircraft.
