HESA Shahed 278

HESA Shahed 278 is a light multi-purpose helicopter developed in 2002 by the Iran Aircraft Manufacturing Industrial Company.

The multi-purpose aircraft model HESA Shahed 278 began to be designed by Iranian aircraft manufacturers in the late 90s of the last century. As a basis, Iranian engineers used models of such helicopters like the Bell 206, which is very well seen in the design and external performance of this aircraft, and Panha Shabaviz 206-1, which was borrowed from the technical component of this aircraft.

The HESA Shahed 278 helicopter was developed exclusively for military purposes, while in the Iranian Armed Forces, this model of the aircraft is also used as a means for transporting military personnel and military command on its board, for transporting various kinds of cargo, and as reconnaissance and patrol means, moreover, the HESA Shahed 278 helicopter can also be used as a means of fire support, however, the effectiveness of its use, in this case, is very low, since the aircraft Rat cannot fight armored vehicles.

The first flight of the HESA Shahed 278 helicopter was made in 2002, and since all flight tests were completed, the current model went into mass production, where, despite the limited release, it turned out to be very promising, which was mainly facilitated by the improvements made, significantly superior to the capabilities of the Bell 206 helicopter.

The HESA Shahed 278 helicopter has a light and compact design that provides the aircraft with high maneuverability. Also, the design of the aircraft can be additionally reinforced with armor plates, which allows it to be used even during military operations.

The cabin of the aircraft model HESA Shahed 278 can accommodate up to 4 people, in particular, we are talking about one pilot and three passengers (military personnel), however, depending on the actual use of this aircraft, the number of people transported may vary. In case of need, the HESA Shahed 278 helicopter can also carry out the transportation of various kinds of cargo, including enough bulky ones, however, according to the technical characteristics of this aircraft, the maximum take-off weight of the aircraft, amounting to 1,450 kilograms, cannot be exceeded.

The helicopter is equipped with a gas turbine-type propulsion system, consisting of one Rolls-Royce 250 aircraft engine with a thrust of 450 hp, which is enough to accelerate the aircraft to its maximum speed of 240 km / h, and overcome distances at distances of 340 kilometers.
