AgustaWestland T129

The AgustaWestland T129 is a multi-purpose attack helicopter developed by Italian aircraft manufacturers from AgustaWestland and Turkish engineers from Turkish Aerospace Industries in 2009.

The AgustaWestland T129 helicopter model is very similar in appearance to the AgustaWestland A129 attack helicopter, however, this is primarily due to the fact that this model was created on the basis of the AgustaWestland A129 aircraft, while in terms of flight technical and combat characteristics, both aircraft are radically different from each other.

Turkish aircraft manufacturers from the Turkish Aerospace Industries company initiated the development of the AgustaWestland T129 helicopter in conjunction with the aircraft manufacturing corporation AgustaWestland in connection with the need to improve the parameters of this aircraft. This is mainly due to the fact that the AgustaWestland A129 model is not suitable for operation in hot regions, and therefore, the operation of these aircraft was not very acceptable for the Turkish air force.

The design of the AgustaWestland T129 helicopter also received a number of differences from the original, however, most of the structural elements remained, which is due to the similarities between the two different models.

The aircraft AgustaWestland T129 made its first flight in 2009, however, representatives of the Turkish aircraft company Turkish Aerospace Industries were unsatisfied with the flight performance of the aircraft, as a result of which the project was sent for revision, and in fact, the model was officially presented to the public only in 2014.

AgustaWestland T129 helicopter weapon kit includes:

  • 20 mm automatic aviation gun .;
  • Heavy machine gun 12.7 mm .;
  • Kits of unguided missiles;
  • Sets of missiles to combat armored vehicles;
  • Missile kits for combating air targets.

The crew of the AgustaWestland T129 combat helicopter consists of two people, including one pilot and one shooter. Due to the fact that the aircraft belongs to the class of military strike equipment, the transportation of passengers and military personnel, as well as cargo, in the helicopter cockpit is not possible.

The power plant of the helicopter model AgustaWestland T129 consists of two gas turbine engines of the brand LHTEC CTS800-4A with a thrust of 1360 hp each that provides the aircraft acceleration to a maximum speed of 278 km \ h., with the ability to overcome distances of 560 kilometers.

According to official data for 2015, the Turkish Air Force has 12 aircraft of this model in service.
