HAL LUH / LOH is an Indian multi-purpose helicopter designed by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited in 2015.
The design of the HAL LUH helicopter, having the full name HAL Light Utility Helicopter, later redesigned and called the HAL Light Observation Helicopter, began to be created by Indian design engineers in 2010. The helicopter was supposed to be a multi-purpose aircraft suitable for carrying people and cargo on its board, while the operation of this aircraft was to be carried out both in the civilian and military spheres of aviation.
The helicopter project began to be implemented at the end of 2011, while this aircraft made its first flight in 2015, demonstrating the very great potential for its use in both military and civil aviation.
In civil aviation, the HAL LUH / LOH model aircraft should have been used to transport people on its board, or used for special purposes (patrolling, air surveillance, etc.), while in the military sphere, a helicopter was supposed to equip with special equipment, but not as a military weapon, but exclusively as auxiliary (electronic warfare, patrolling the territory, etc.).
Even though the helicopter completed all the tasks during its tests, the model was planned for serial production only by 2018, due to the need to prepare the issue itself, as well as to create several additional modifications, for example, passenger, cargo, special and combined versions of this aircraft.
Depending on the layout of the cabin, the cabin of the HAL LUH / LOH aircraft can accommodate up to 8 people, including two crew members and six passengers, while in the combined versions only four passengers can be transported. The maximum payload mass that a HAL LUH / LOH model helicopter can carry on its board depends primarily on the version of the aircraft, however, in general, this figure is about one ton.
The HAL LUH / LOH helicopter is equipped with a gas turbine-type power plant consisting of one Turbomeca Shakti 1U aircraft engine capable of developing 1700 horsepower, which accordingly allows the aircraft to accelerate to a maximum flight speed of 250 km / h, however, the maximum flight range of the aircraft is limited to 350 kilometers.
To date, the Indian Armed Forces and the Air Force have expressed interest in acquiring HAL LUH / LOH helicopters, however, in the future, it is also planned to introduce the helicopter into the civilian sphere of aviation.
