HAL LCH is an Indian military attack helicopter developed in 2010 by the aircraft manufacturer Hindustan Aeronautics Limited.

The full name HAL Light Combat Helicopter, the HAL LCH helicopter, was developed by Indian aircraft manufacturers in the mid-2000s. As a fundamental principle, Indian designers and structural engineers used the design of a multi-purpose aircraft model HAL Dhruv, which has successfully established itself in both the military and civilian spheres of aviation. Even though the design of the aircraft was carried out using the previously created base, the HAL LCH helicopter nevertheless received its design, which provided it with higher operational characteristics.

The aircraft of the HAL LCH model underwent its first flight tests in 2010, and since the actual design of the combat aircraft had already proved itself earlier, all tests were successfully passed, however, the mass production of these aircraft began somewhat later, which was due to the need for testing the combat qualities of this helicopter, for which the current model was sent to the Armed Forces of India, where it was subjected to all kinds of tests for about another year.

Since the helicopter was able to successfully prove itself, already in 2011, this model of a combat aircraft began to be mass-produced, and, according to 2015, 6 aircraft of this model was built by aircraft manufacturers from Hindustan Aeronautics Limited.

The armament of the HAL LCH helicopter consists of:

  • Automatic aviation 20 mm. guns;
  • 4 unguided missiles to combat ground targets;
  • 4 guided air-to-air missiles;
  • 8 anti-tank guided missiles;
  • 4 bombs

The crew of a combat attack helicopter HAL LCH consists of two people – a pilot and a gunner, who is responsible for managing the aircraft’s weapons. Since this aircraft belongs to the class of attack helicopters, transportation of any cargo or people on board does not seem possible, which, however, does not make this model very popular.

The power plant of the HAL LCH helicopter consists of two Turbomeca Shakti gas turbine engines, which are capable of developing a total power of 2860 hp, which in turn provides the aircraft with the ability to accelerate to a speed of 330 km / h and cover distances of 700 kilometers.

Today, not only the Armed Forces of India but also the armed forces of other countries are interested in using attack helicopters of the HAL LCH model, which most likely indicates the fact that the production of helicopters can become massive.
