Eurocopter EC225 Super Puma

In June 1998, Eurocopter announced the start of work on a multi-purpose helicopter EC225 for civil aviation, which has a crew of 2 people. At the same time, it is capable of carrying up to 25 passengers.

The first flight took place in November 2000, and in July 2004 received a certificate of flight fitness JAR29. At the end of 2004, the American FAR certificate was received. Helicopter deliveries started in the summer of 2005.

The new machine became part of the Super Puma and Cougar MkII helicopters. EC225 was created based on AS332L2. The design of the helicopter used light modern alloys that are resistant to corrosion from seawater, which makes it possible to operate the machine intensively in the coastal zone, at oil rigs, and in rescue operations. The power elements of the fuselage are made of titanium.

The main rotor blades with a diameter of 16.2 m are made of composite materials. The rotor at the request of the customer can be equipped with an anti-icing electrical system. The blades are mounted on spherical elastomeric bearings.

The two-seat cockpit is made on the principle of “glass” or “transparent” and is equipped with multi-function monitors on liquid crystal active matrices – 4 in size 6×8 ”, 2 in size 4×5” and 1 in size 3×4 ”. The helicopter equipment includes an automated flight control system with an APM2000 autopilot (four-channel), a flight data recording system, an automatic system status adjustment system, and a Honeywell collision warning system.

In the passenger cabin, the volume of which is 20 cubic meters, you can install up to 25 seats. Depending on the task, the cabin can easily be converted into a business or VIP class cabin. In the rescue configuration, the cabin is equipped with 12 beds for bedridden patients, 6 seats for seated patients and doctors.
The helicopter is equipped with a winch and mounting units for transporting goods on the external suspension. The largest take-off weight of a helicopter with an external load is 11,200 kg.

The EC225 power plant has two Turbomeca Makila2A turboshaft engines, power 2413l.s. each. Dust protection devices were installed on the air intakes of the motors. Fuel tanks are installed under the floor of the passenger cabin.

The three-post helicopter landing gear is retracted back in flight and is performed using oil and pneumatic shock absorbers. The wheels are equipped with disc hydraulic differential brakes.

The Eurocopter firm estimates the EC225 helicopter market at 200 copies.
