Emirates refutes rumors of layoffs

The Dubai-based Emirates did not confirm information about the mass dismissal of 30% of the staff, or 30 thousand employees, which appeared on the eve of several media outlets.

“The airline did not make mass layoffs. Any decision will be made public in due course, ”said a representative from Emirates.

He also noted that the air carrier is evaluating all costs in its departments.

Currently, Emirates Airlines employs about 105 thousand people. In March, the government of Dubai announced the provision of financial support to the company, which, among other things, cut wages and reduced the flight program.

Currently, the air carrier’s fleet includes 115 Airbus A380 aircraft and 155 Boeing 777s. As Airbus previously reported, the production of A380 superliners will be completed in 2021.

At the same time, the Dubai Media Office denied rumors of a merger between Dubai and Abu Dhabi and called on the media to verify the information before publication. The media, in particular, reported that Dubai requested support from the Mubadala Capital Investment Fund.
