Denel Rooivalk

Denel Rooivalk is a South African military attack helicopter designed in 1990 by Denel Aircraft.

The South African multi-purpose attack helicopter began to be developed in the 80s of the last century, while the French multi-purpose helicopter model Aerospatiale Puma, which underwent several structural and technical changes, actually became an independent model, which became in demand in the South African Air Force.

Even though aircraft manufacturers could not provide the aircraft with a compact size, the Denel Rooivalk helicopter is a very maneuverable aircraft capable of performing combat missions in various conditions.

The first test tests of a Denel Rooivalk model helicopter took place in 1990, however, although the aircraft was manufactured before 2007, in reality, this aircraft was introduced only in 2011, which, according to the military command of the South African Air Force, was necessary.

Even though helicopters turned out to be very acceptable for the South African Air Force, the aircraft of this model had very limited production – for 17 years of production. The aircraft manufacturing company built only 12 aircraft, which, nevertheless, continue to be actively used by armed by the forces of this country.

The attack helicopter model Denel Rooivalk has the following weapons:

The Denel Rooivalk helicopter is very effective in combating both equipment and large concentrations of enemy manpower, however, to combat single enemy manpower groups, this device cannot be used due to the lack of rationality for this.

The crew of the Denel Rooivalk helicopter consists of two people – a pilot and a shooter who manages an automatic aircraft gun and missiles, however, in fact, the helicopter can be controlled by one crew member. Due to the belonging of this aircraft to the class of military aircraft, transportation of people and cargo on board the Denel Rooivalk helicopter is not possible.

The power plant of the Denel Rooivalk helicopter consists of two Turbomeca Makila 1K2 gas turbine aircraft engines, which, having a thrust of 1900 hp, allowing the aircraft to accelerate to a speed of 310 km / h (maximum performance). The combat radius of the Denel Rooivalk helicopter is 740 kilometers, while the ferry range is 1335 kilometers.
