Bolkow Bo 46

Bolkow Bo 46 is a German multi-purpose high-speed helicopter developed in 1964 by the aircraft manufacturer Bolkow.

The Bolkow Bo 46 helicopter was designed by German aircraft developers in the early 60s of the last century. The main goal of creating this aircraft was an attempt to design a multi-purpose high-speed aircraft that can be used both in civilian and military aircraft, however, because the project became very expensive, only three were created by German aircraft manufacturers for the entire production period an instance of this model, including one prototype and two production options.

The Bolkow Bo 46 model made its first test flight in January 1964, however, the project began to be technically improved and, in fact, didn’t enter the real production, although, by its very nature, aircraft manufacturers simply expected orders from potential customers.

The aircraft Bolkow Bo 46 is a two-seat aircraft with high maneuverability and the ability to move at high speeds, which in turn provided him with certain prospects for further use. However, due to the impossibility of transporting any cargo on board, or a larger number of passengers, the project was not able to interest buyers.

If necessary, the aircraft could be used as an airborne surveillance device, as a patrol vehicle, or as a vehicle for chasing ground vehicles (as a police aircraft). This was mainly facilitated by the powerful gas turbine power plant of the helicopter, consisting of one Turboméca Turmo IIIB aircraft engine capable of developing a thrust of 800 hp. The maximum flight speed of the aircraft Bolkow Bo 46 is 320 km \ h., Which, taking into account the production time, is a very high indicator, while the distances over which the helicopter could fly are limited to 810 kilometers.

The Bolkow Bo 46 helicopter can accelerate to high speed largely due to the special aerodynamic shape, which also provides the aircraft and high maneuverability.

Only two people can be accommodated in the helicopter cockpit – a pilot and one passenger, while this aircraft is deprived of any special capabilities, although aircraft manufacturers did not exclude the possibility that the aircraft’s capacity could be further expanded, and it will appear here including the ability to accommodate small cargoes weighing up to 1.5 tons.
