Boeing-Sikorsky RAH-66 Comanche

Boeing-Sikorsky RAH-66 Comanche – attack helicopter, developed in 1996 by the aircraft manufacturers Boeing Helicopters and Sikorsky Aircraft.

The design of a combat attack helicopter of the Boeing-Sikorsky RAH-66 Comanche model began to be carried out by aircraft manufacturers of such American manufacturers as the Boeing Helicopters and Sikorsky Aircraft in 1991. The main goal of developing a new military helicopter was the need to replace previous models of attack aircraft. The initiator for this project was the American military command, while about $ 6.9 billion was allocated for the creation of a new promising attack helicopter, which, in essence, should have led to the creation of a high-quality and sought-after aircraft.

Already in 1996, the helicopter model Boeing-Sikorsky RAH-66 Comanche made its first flight, which was very successful, but required several improvements in its design and technical part. Because the completion of the aircraft was very delayed, the project was very expensive, which is why it was ultimately canceled.

The Boeing-Sikorsky RAH-66 Comanche helicopter has very powerful weapons, allowing a very effective fight against large concentrations of the enemy, including armored and airborne equipment. In service with the Boeing-Sikorsky RAH-66 Comanche model is:

  • 20 mm. automatic aircraft gun;
  • A set of anti-tank missiles;
  • A set of unguided missiles;
  • A set of missiles to combat air assets.

One of the most striking shortcomings of the weapon system of the Boeing-Sikorsky RAH-66 Comanche attack helicopter was the missing weapon kit to combat a live power enemy.

Two people can be accommodated in the cockpit of a Boeing-Sikorsky RAH-66 Comanche attack helicopter – a pilot and a shooter, and, because this aircraft belongs to the class of military air means, transportation of people and cargo on board is not possible.

The helicopter has a power plant consisting of two gas turbine LHTEC T800-LHT-801 aircraft engines, each of which has a thrust of 1565 hp, which allows the aircraft to accelerate to a maximum flight speed of 325 km \ h. The maximum combat range of the Boeing-Sikorsky RAH-66 Comanche helicopter is 485 kilometers, while the ferry range is 2220 kilometers.

Although the American Boeing-Sikorsky RAH-66 Comanche combat helicopter did not begin to be mass-produced and the project was canceled, experts believe that in the future, the production of these aircraft can be resumed.
