American Sportscopter Ultrasport 496

American Sportscopter Ultrasport 496 is an American ultra-light helicopter developed in 1998 by the aircraft company American Sportscopter.

The development of the aircraft model American Sportscopter Ultrasport 496 began by American aviation specialists in 1995. When designing the aircraft of this model, American aircraft manufacturers intended to create a small helicopter suitable for private operation, but significantly limited by its functionality.

The American Sportscopter Ultrasport 496 helicopter has a very light and simple design, while the compact size of this aircraft provides the aircraft with increased maneuverability, but makes it impossible to take more than two people on board or to carry cargo.

The aircraft American Sportcopter Ultrasport 496 made its first flight in 1998, after which the aircraft entered serial production. The release of helicopters of this model was carried out by American aircraft manufacturers exclusively as kits for self-assembly by the future owner, however, due to the optimization and unification of the helicopter components and parts, the assembly required only about 60 hours, and often it was possible to do using standard tools.

The production of helicopters as self-assembly kits provided the aircraft, among other things, at a very low cost, which, according to 1998, was only 49 thousand dollars. Nevertheless, the serial production of American Sportscopter Ultrasport 496 helicopters was very limited, and only 7 aircraft of this model was built for the entire production cycle.

Onboard the aircraft can accommodate up to two people – one pilot and one passenger. At the same time, the transportation of goods by American Sportscopter Ultrasport 496 helicopter is not possible even if there is no passenger on board, due to the specific configuration of the cabin and its design solution.

Due to the presence of paired controls, the helicopter can be used to train future pilots, however, the project was not able to get commercial distribution.

The power plant of the American Sportscopter Ultrasport 496 helicopter consists of one three-cylinder aircraft engine brand Hirth F-30, capable of developing the power of only 95 hp, which, however, is enough to accelerate the aircraft to a maximum speed of 160 km \ h., and overcoming distances of 240 kilometers.

Of the 7 manufactured by American Sportscopter Ultrasport 496 helicopters, only one aircraft is registered in the United States.
