AgustaWestland CH-149 Cormorant

AgustaWestland CH-149 Cormorant is a multi-purpose transport and passenger helicopter developed by AgustaWestland in 2000.

The AgustaWestland CH-149 Cormorant helicopter was developed by Italian aircraft manufacturers from the AgustaWestland company in the 90s of the last century. The main initiator of the development was the Canadian Air Force, which required a high-quality multipurpose aircraft capable of being used to transport a large number of military personnel on board, to transport goods, and to participate in search and rescue operations.

The AgustaWestland CH-149 Cormorant model began to be developed on the AgustaWestland AW101 without the well-proven model, however, both the appearance of the aircraft and its flight performance was carefully optimized for the requirements of the Canadian Air Force.

The AgustaWestland CH-149 Cormorant helicopter made its first flight in the year 2000, and due to the fact that the test tests showed quite satisfactory results, the project was almost immediately sent to mass production, where it continues to be today. Nevertheless, this aircraft was not widely used, and today its operation is conducted exclusively by the Canadian Air Force, while it was expected that the project could be distributed in the United States and in several European countries, which until now the moment did not happen.

Onboard the AgustaWestland CH-149 Cormorant helicopter, up to 4100 kilograms of the payload can be accommodated, or the helicopter can carry up to 45 troops (in a standing position), which makes it very effective in terms of its operational capabilities. The helicopter is not used as a combat weapon since there is no possibility of using any type or types of weapons.

The power plant of the AgustaWestland CH-149 Cormorant helicopter consists of three General Electric T700-T6A1 turboshaft aircraft engines, which allow the aircraft to develop a total power of 5175 hp, which provides the helicopter with a high load-carrying capacity and accelerates to a speed of 278 km \ h. (maximum flight speed). The maximum distance over which the helicopter model AgustaWestland CH-149 Cormorant can fly is 1390 kilometers.

According to official data, from 2000 to 2013, AgustaWestland aircraft builders built 15 aircraft of the AgustaWestland CH-149 Cormorant model, while aircraft production continues to this day.
