AgustaWestland AW189

AgustaWestland AW189 is a medium-duty civil multi-purpose helicopter developed jointly by AgustaWestland Italian and British aircraft builders in 2011.

The development of the AgustaWestland AW189 civil multi-purpose aircraft was carried out by Italian and British aircraft manufacturers based on the version of the AgustaWestland AW149 military helicopter, while the external design underwent few changes, but the helicopter’s functionality was significantly expanded, which made it quite popular.

AgustaWestland experts practically did not spend time and effort developing a civilian helicopter of this model, which is why in 2011 the aircraft of this model made its first flight, and in the same year, it was sent to mass production, where, thanks to its high multifunctionality is to this day.

Depending on the configuration of the aircraft, as well as on its intended purpose, the AgustaWestland AW189 helicopter can carry up to 21 people on board, including two pilots and nineteen passengers, which in turn is quite a lot, however, depending on the capacity onboard, the range helicopter flight can vary significantly from 370 to 907 kilometers. If necessary, the AgustaWestland AW189 helicopter can also be used as an air transport vehicle carrying on its board up to several tons of payload. Among other things, the AgustaWestland AW189 helicopter can also be actively used for various kinds of maintenance work, which is why the largest contract for 160 helicopters for AgustaWestland in 2015 was signed with the Russian company Rosneft.

The power plant of the AgustaWestland AW189 helicopter consists of two General Electric CT7-2E1 turboshaft aircraft engines with a combined power of 4000 hp, which is the main factor in the high carrying capacity of this aircraft. Depending on the workload, the cruising speed of a helicopter of this model can range from 267 km \ h. To 278 km \ h, which is quite acceptable for a helicopter of this type.

In 2015, there was information that this aircraft could subsequently be adapted for military purposes, including the helicopter can be used to transport troops or transport various kinds of cargo, however, AgustaWestland representatives did not specify, whether a separate model will be developed, or whether a modified version will appear based on the existing one.
